Ingredients Required

To prepare authentic tarri poha, you need two parts:

1. For Poha (flattened rice base):

● 2 cups poha (flattened rice)

● 2 tbsp oil

● 1 tsp mustard seeds

● 1 tsp cumin seeds

● 1 onion (finely chopped)

● 2 green chilies (slit)

● 8–10 curry leaves

● ½ turmeric powder

● Salt to taste

● Fresh coriander leaves

● Lemon tsp

● Sev or farsan for garnish

2. For Tarri (black chana curry):

● 1 cup black chana (soaked overnight)

● 2 onions (finely chopped)

● 2 tomatoes (finely chopped)

● 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste

● 2 tbsp oil

● 1 tsp mustard seeds

● 1 tsp cumin seeds

● 1 tsp garam masala

● 1 tsp coriander powder

● 1 tsp turmeric powder

● 1 tbsp red chili powder

● 1 tsp kala masala (Nagpuri special, optional)

● Salt to taste

Step-by-Step Recipe

Step 1: Preparing the Poha

1. Wash poha gently under running water and drain excess water. Keep aside.

2. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, and green chilies.

3. Add chopped onions and sauté till golden brown.

4. Add turmeric and poha with salt. Mix well.

5. Cover and steam for 2–3 minutes on low flame.

6. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.

Step 2: Preparing the Tarri

1. Pressure cook soaked black chana with water and a little salt until soft.

2. Heat oil in another pan, add mustard and cumin seeds.

3. Add onions, sauté till golden brown, then add ginger-garlic paste.

4. Add tomatoes, cook till soft, and add spices (turmeric, red chili, coriander powder,kala masala).

5. Add boiled chana with water. Let it simmer till tarri becomes flavorful and aromatic.

6. Taste and adjust spices.

● Place poha on a plate.

● Top with chopped onions, sev, coriander, and lemon juice.
